Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for rolling)
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into pieces)
  • 1/4 cup shortening (butter flavor Crisco)
  • 12 ounces fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Make the crust by pulsing flour and salt in a food processor. Add cold butter and shortening; pulse until grainy.
  2. Gradually add ice water until the dough holds together. Form into a ball, wrap, and chill for at least 2 hours.
  3. Prepare the filling: Cook blackberries with sugar, thickener, and lemon juice over low heat until softened.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll out chilled dough and fit into a baking sheet. Spoon berry mixture over the crust.
  5. Cover with another layer of rolled dough, seal edges, and bake for about 40 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cool completely before glazing with a mixture of confectioner’s sugar and water.
