  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 100 g dark brown sugar
  • 200 g grated apples
  • 110 g vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 140 g sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 100 g butter for buttercream
  • Salted caramel sauce (homemade)
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground all spice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the caramel sauce by heating sugar and water until amber, then whisking in butter, cream, and salt. Set aside to cool.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. Mix dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice) in one bowl.
  4. In another bowl, combine sugars, grated apples, oil, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes before frosting with buttercream made from beaten butter, powdered sugar, caramel, and vanilla.
