  • 3 pears, peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tsp ground cardamom (divided)
  • Kosher salt
  • Optional: raw turbinado sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine cubed bread, diced pears, brown sugar, and 1 tsp ground cardamom; toss gently.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and salt until smooth. Pour over the bread mixture to soak.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining cardamom and optional turbinado sugar on top.
  5. Bake for about 60 minutes or until set and golden brown.
