  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp Christmas spice mix
  • 3/4 cup softened butter
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3.5 oz candied citrus peel
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Soak raisins and dried currants in boiling water until plump.
  2. Activate yeast by mixing lukewarm milk, yeast, and sugar; let froth for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Combine flour, ground almonds, spice mix, and remaining sugar in a large bowl.
  4. Add activated yeast mixture, softened butter, vanilla extract, and eggs; mix until combined.
  5. Fold in drained fruits and candied citrus peel.
  6. Knead dough until smooth; let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Roll dough into balls (about 2 oz each) and arrange on the baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown; cool on a wire rack.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar while still warm.
