Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs ribeye or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 6 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 Asian pear or red apple, grated
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped green onions
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 cup mushrooms (shiitake or white button), sliced
  • 2 tbsp honey butter (1 tbsp melted butter + 1 tbsp honey)
  • Cooked rice or lettuce leaves for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, grated pear/apple, and black pepper. Add the sliced beef and let it marinate for at least one hour.
  2. Heat a grill pan or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add neutral oil.
  3. Add marinated beef in batches to avoid overcrowding. Sear each batch for about 2–3 minutes on each side until caramelized.
  4. Drizzle honey butter over the cooked beef just before removing from heat and toss to coat.
  5. Plate with rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Wrap in lettuce leaves if desired.
