  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
  • 5 oz bittersweet chocolate (60% cacao), chopped
  • Black gel icing color
  • Red gel icing color
  • 2 1/4 cups (504g) unsalted butter
  • 8 cups (920g) powdered sugar
  • 1 cup (114g) natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 57 tbsp (75-105ml) water/cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 oz red Wilton candy melts
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream unsalted butter with vegetable oil and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate eggs and vanilla extract into the mixture, then alternate adding dry ingredients with buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Melt bittersweet chocolate and fold into half of the batter.
  6. Spoon both batters into the prepared pan, swirling gently with a knife for a marbled effect.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
