  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 29 ounces canned sauerkraut, undrained

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Place bratwurst on a sheet pan with a wire rack; spray with cooking oil.
  3. Roast for 30 minutes, turning once after 15 minutes.
  4. While brats roast, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Add sliced onions and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar; cook until golden, about 15-20 minutes.
  6. Pour in broth and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  7. Transfer onion mixture to an oven-safe casserole dish; layer roasted brats on top.
  8. Spread sauerkraut evenly over brats and sprinkle remaining brown sugar.
  9. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 30-40 minutes until sauerkraut is caramelized.
